The 460-hectare former airport site is being developed into a research and industrial park for urban technologies, the so-called “Urban Tech Republic“. The legendary Terminal A will be extensively renovated and remodeled while maintaining heritage protection. The largest user of the terminal will be Berliner Hochschule für Technik, and by placing certain programs on site synergies with the adjacent industries will be established. Open space laboratories are being created for departments such as Electromobility, Urban Horticulture and Landscape Management, and renewable energies.
The Berlin Senate makes high demands on the sustainability of the future university campus and has the extraordinary project certified according to the Assessment System for Sustainable Building (BNB). In her function as BNB coordinator, Anja Rosen has the opportunity to accompany the conversion of this unique airport and heritage building into a university. On completion, it will be a lighthouse project for sustainable construction.
