The architectural concept emphazises place-identity. It evolved as a counter-thesis to the large-scale extension, picked up the “grain“ of the medieval town plan, and continued it with its roof landscape. Through preliminary design process, a renovation of the city hall from the 1970th proved not feasible from various perspectives.
In a paradigmatic process, the resources from the demolition of the existing building, 6,000 tons of concrete, were transferred to the new construction. The building made by recyclable building materials is designed to serve future generations again as an urban mine though to a fuller extent due to detachable connection technologies.
Anja Rosen supported the architects developing the innovative Urban Mining concept and applied a tool she developed as planning support, the Urban Mining Index. for the first time with great success.
