An extraordinary housing project has been created on the former site of the Oxford Barracks in Münster-Gievenbeck: 'Collaborative Living in the Neighbourhood' (KliQ) is an innovative, sustainable residential development for around 100 people. The project aimed to minimise individual living space and instead create communal areas. The design allows for flexible usage throughout all stages of life and enables the apartments to be subdivided without major structural changes if needed, thereby ensuring maximum long-term adaptability.
On the narrow site, 28 residential units have been built using timber-hybrid and timber-frame construction methods. The project includes a variety of shared and flexible spaces such as a community garden, coworking space, guest apartments, and areas that encourage collaborative use. The building extends over three above-ground floors and one basement level, including a workshop and an underground parking garage, mostly for bicycles.
The construction concept focuses on sustainable building methods using renewable materials, energy-efficient heat supply, and photovoltaic systems on the roof surfaces. Planning and implementation follow high sustainability standards. The building is intended to receive DGNB Gold certification and the QNG (Quality Seal for Sustainable Buildings). The residential project was completed at the end of 2025.
